ON KING'S ROAD IN CHELSEA, Malcolm McLaren, who owned a clothing boutique called SEX, took American punk music to a different level in the mid-1970s. He managed the pioneering band, the Sex Pistols.
The 70s and early 80s were a chaotic time in London, largely because of the economic struggles. There was mass displeasure with the status quo and the government, and people channeled their frustrations in various ways.
The global economic situation today isn't as bad but it's getting there. And that could be great for the music scene.
